Randy Rencsok Personal Turbo ADB NeXTCube

| Here is my cube. Below are images which when clicked on will blow up to larger size. To the right are notes I made on each of the sides. Also it seems the digital images reveal more variation that is normally seen by the eye. Also as I was in a bit of rush to use the sun - there may be amplitude variations due to handling - not actual blemishes in the surface. Though after through examination it is clear that this cube does have some minor scratches and chipping. The scratches are not gouges, and the chips are mostly 1mm in maximum length. Honestly you have to see the cube to appreciate. I was looking very closely to determine and highlight the imperfections.. Overall while the face on this cube is excellent. |

  |
Pictures are of the front and the back sides of the cube. The front face of this cube is the best I have. While a scuffing scratch can be seen just under the faceplate and two discoloration points on the lower right - there are no actual scratches or chips on the front face of this cube - other than the upper corners (small). The front logo is excellent. On the back you might pick up a couple very small scratches. A couple corner chps on the back plate, upper right back, bottom center, and upper left. |
  |
Pictures are of the left and right sides of the cube. On the right side there are about 4 scruffs on the side of that face nearest the front - they look like scratches in the image but it is either some material or a scuff. I don't want to try to remove it as that may cause more damage than just leaving it there. On this side the fins have no damage. On the right side you can just make out some minor chips (flaking?) - very small on one of the fins nearest the lower right corner. Also you can again see two blemishes which are almost identical to the ones on the front on the lower right (perhaps a sticker?) Also barely noticable is a scratch which runs parallel with the rightmost fin about 1 fin distance away. This scratch whiile there is barely noticable. |

Pictures are of the top and bottom sides of the cube. Now the top is almost always the most critical element of the cube. On this cube one has a moderate amount of scratches on top. There are 3 scratches in the lower left hand corner of the image, and some on the upper right. One can also make out flaking or chipping on the fins near the top of the image. Also realize that the camera exagerates these. But they are there. The bottom generally seemed excellent - though when I look at the image I see some pitting - I believe this came from the process itself and is not due to damage of any sort. |
| Below are closer images of various sections. Unfortunately I don't have sizes but you should be able to compare to the large size images and determine size from there. Notice I was extremely close and using sunlight. These imperfections hence become exaggerated to some degree. |

Here is a shot of the upper left corner of the back plate of the cube, to show the chips in the paint. This is very typical of cubes and as I have said I believe is a design flaw. (like the top one of the most difficult places to keep intact). The discolored section on the front is visible and as I said there are NO scratches or chips on the front of this cube. |
 |
Here is a close up picture of the scratches at the top right of the top face of the cube. They are pretty easily visible on the large top image - but I wanted to show a close up. |

Here is a close up picture of the scratches at the bottom left of the top face of the cube. They are pretty easily visible on the large top image - but I wanted to show a close up. |

In this image you can see a close up of the chipping/flaking on the fins on the upper part of the top of the cube shot. This is very common on cubes. Mostly on this cube is a bit of flaking - I don't think it technically is chipped down to the metal. It's as if this cube was painted twice and there is now a bit of flaking occuring. Not sure though. |
 |
Here is a shot of one of the top fins where some paint flaking is occuring (about 1/2" long I think) - but underneath I believe is another layer of paint. |
| Some final notes. I havn't taken shots of the monitors since I still have to go through them - if needed I can - but rest assured that you will be getting one of my best. Same can be said for the rest of the equipment (ADB, soundbox, keyboard, mouse, cables, etc.) The other note is that the internal HD is not a NeXT origoinal. I believe I could if so desired obtain 660M Maxtor FH drives if one wished. But I really don't know how long they will last - or what kind of condition they would be in.. Many of my FH drives failed long ago so while one could have them in there - I don't think one would want to power them up.. Also while I believe the printers I have are in good to excellent cosmetic condition I havn't checked those carefully yet. They certianly will be functional. |
