THE WINNING BID -
$11,500

98.07.16.1753 - Auction is closed. The winning bid is above and purchaser will is making arrangements to ship the machine. The intended use is as a web server.

98.08.01.0022 - Open bidding is now closed. E-mail will be going out this evening to all bidders who are elidgible to bid in the final bidding sequence to determine the final winner. Bid increments are $500. And as stated below if a bidder isn't heard from for more than 12 hours from (98.15.0000) will be considered not interested or out of the bid. To everyone that is visiting for the first time - well where were you for the past 6 weeks? Immediate purchase price is still valid - until the machine is confirmed sold. (This is the only way an new bidder could concievably get the machine from current bidders - which is extremely unlikely IMHO - and all bidders would have priority to match or beat the 20K purchase price. As I said I expect this will not happen.)

98.07.13.1815 - Some final notes. First as of 98.07.14.2359 there will be no new bidders allowed into the auction. At that time the bidding is still open (meaning everyone will be able to see the current bid on a private web page) - but no new outside bidders will be allowed. Bidding increment will increase to $500. Effectively the auction will continue with the closed bidder list - until the bid reaches a point that everyone has dropped out. If a bidder has not been heard from for more than 12 hours they will be considered dropped out of the list of available bidders. If there is any internet problems - site problems. I can be contacted by phone 517-371-3327 or e-mail. I am hoping to have the final bidding sequence complete by wednesday - and a winner determined by thursday. If there are still a large number of bidders in the closed portion on wednesday - I may resort to a final closed bid to determine the winner by thursday - this would involved sending everyone the final bid - and asking everyone to submit a final closed bid - the top closed bid will then get the machine. If there are only a couple 2-4 bidders on wednesday I may just let them fight it out until only one is left.

As I said I hope to have this completely wrapped up by thursday - and I'm just trying to deal with the fact that eveyone seems to be waiting till the last day to submit bids.

98.07.01.1428 - I've added a link to general information on Challenge L's on SGI's website. You can click on the image, or here.

98.06.23.1539 - Another change. The seller has decided he wants to move the final auction closing date up to 98.07.14 - The bidding will be closed at midnight EST on that day. Top bidder will be contacted by phone on the following day to make arrangements for payment - and delivery/shipping. This date will not change again.

98.06.16.1555 - I've spoken with the the seller and based on inquiries we have decided to set a immediate purchase price. Which means the first confirmed bid received at that price will recieve the machine.

Ok. I see that folks are trying to hit this page. I will say this again if you want to submit a bid send e-mail to randy@channelu.com. Or you can also use the following link and select "Challenge L Auction" to send a bid. For your bid to be accepted you must include full day and evening contact information (i.e. phone numbers and addresses) and if possible an e-mail address - don't worry I won't be giving out this list to anybody and will probably destroy it after the machine is finally sold.

Here is a copy of the origional post (like you didn't see it)

Ok. I have a client that is moving on to other things and he has the following I am going to auction it off for him. Tentatively the closing date for the auction will be July 21 (my birthday :). The bid does not include shipping, we'd obviously prefer someone pick up the box as it's in pristine condition. And we would require the box to be shipped/removed within 10 days to two weeks after of the close of the auction. Payment terms will be Cashiers Check, wire transfer, or Money Order, or Cash (:). Shipping/insurance arrangements must be made/paid for by purchaser - but we will endeavor to help in this process of course.

The way the auction will work is that twice a week I will repost this ad with the current high bid. People can call 517-371-3327 or e-mail bids to randy@channelu.com

The opening bid will start at 6K and should move in no less than $250 increments. I will e-mail everyone who has bid at least once per day or everytime the bid moves by more than $1K who is on the list.

6K is Pretty damn cheap for a 1G/14G dual R10K-195.

I sure know I could put it to some good use - I know others can too. Purchase extra cpu's and RAM and someone will have a serious crank. I'd bet it would make nice trade in value on a Origin :)

The box is located in the state of NJ and arrangements can be made for folks that would like to come and see it.

The hardware is as follows:

Challenge L Deskside Server
Dual R10000 1MB SC
2 GB System Disk
1024 MB Ram (SGI Certified, Kingston)
3x4GB Zbarracuda FWD, level 0 RAID
4/8 GB Dat-DDS2 internal Tape Drive for Onyx and Challenge
680 MB Quad speed CD-ROM for Onyx and Challenge.
Along with a APC UPS 2200XL SmartUPS

Software includes
Prodev/C++ Bundle for 6.2
MipsPro C++ Compiler
IDO 7.2
Impressario
Purify
and all CD's that came with the box.
The box is under full on site support till the end of July.
